Consignor Tagging Instructions and Merchandise Preparation
Clothing:
-
All items should be free of stains, holes, missing buttons,
-
All clothing items should be hung on wire hangers (preferably) or you can use plastic hangers if you are unable to find wire. Wire hangers are available at most dry cleaners free of charge. The hanger hook should be facing the left. Place two piece outfits on one hanger with the shirt to the front and pants safety pinned to the back. Refer to diagram.

-
Attach your bar-coded card with a safety pin to the left shoulder of your clothing item (as if you are wearing it). Attach tags to toys and other non-hanging items with 2" clear packing tape placed above the description line on the tag. Please DO NOT place tape over the barcode!
-
When describing your items, point out if they are brand name, new or barely used. This will catch the buyer's eye. Use a numeric size on your tags, not S, M, L. Also, state how many pieces (if there are multiple pieces) are included in a set, i.e. 2-piece outfit, 3-piece outfit.
-
Items in great, like new condition will generally bring 1/4-1/3 of the original retail price. The best rule of thumb is what would you pay for the item? (See "Helpful Hints" on our website)
-
When setting the price of your items, use $1 increments only.
-
For small items, such as onesies, socks, receiving blankets, toys with a lot of pieces, use a ziploc bag and tape the top part of the card on the outside of the bag. Do not place any tape over the barcodes.
-
Tie books together with yarn or string instead of using a ziploc bag.
-
Make sure all tags are securely fastened. Either pinned on clothing or taped securely on toys and other items. Scotch or masking tape will not hold.
-
We can not accept car sets that are older than 6 years old, recalled, defective. If you are bringing a car seat, please download our "car seat disclaimer" form, sign and bring with you to your drop off time. Click here to see if your car seat has been recalled.
-
Items not following the above standards will be rejected at drop off. No exceptions!
Shoes:
-
Shoes notoriously lose their tags and become separated from their mates at the sale. Do your best to secure them together with their tag. We suggest attaching them together with zip ties, loop ties or at minimum a safety pin. Knotting their shoelaces together is also helpful but zip ties are the best.
-
Shoes can also be placed in Ziploc bag. As with the clothes, place a strip of clear packing tape over the seal of the bag so that it can not be opened during the sale (or staples work, too!). Tape your label to the exterior of the bag but do not tape over the bar code. If you attach your tag directly to the shoes, tags can easily get ripped off shoes. Therefore, we recommend "laminating" the top of your tag with packing tape before you affix the tag to your shoes - that way the tag won't be so easily ripped off. Remember, please do not place tape over the bar code.
Toys:
1. Toys that require batteries must have working batteries. Price accordingly!
2. If the toys have loose parts, secure these extra parts in a plastic bag and securely tape them to the main toy. Shoppers are rough – they will separate toys, try them out, etc. If parts aren’t secured well enough, they will get lost and separated and make it difficult for your toys to sell.
3. Tape your product information tag securely to the toy so that it cannot be torn off easily by the customer.
4. Tape or place in bags any games, puzzles or other “boxed” items shut to ensure that the pieces don’t get pulled out during the sale.
5. Bikes or outdoor toys should be clearly labeled. Tape the label to the toy in a location that makes it easy to see.
Books:
1. Tape the product tag to the back cover of the book. Please be sure not to tape over your barcode!
2. You can also cluster books by tying them together with yarn and tagging the group of books.
Baby/kid equipment (e.g. strollers, bouncers, exersaucers, furniture, etc.):
1. Instruction manuals are always helpful - include them when you can. Most can be downloaded from the internet if you've lost them.
2. Ensure everything is clean – trays, pads, bars, etc. – spit up and gunk get caught everywhere!
3. If items have multiple pieces that might get separated (e.g. bouncy seats and their activity bars, the 7 pieces that come with your pack and play, cribs with 8 pieces), make sure that the product tag is on the main piece. Handwrite additional tags with your consignor #, the description and mark them with 1 of 8, 2 of 8, 3 of 8, etc.
4. Car seats are welcome at the sale. They should be no more than 5 years old and cannot have been in a car wreck nor recalled. You will be required to sign a disclaimer when you drop off a car seat.
Generating Your Tags
Our new tagging procedure will allow you to create item numbers for all of the items you bring to our sale. If you would like to itemize your merchandise that you bring to the sale, you must request a itemized report when you drop your items off at the sale. You will do this when you sign your "disclaimer form" at drop off. There will be a place on this form to request a printout of all item numbers sold at the sale. This report is only available after the sale. There will be know way to find out what you have sold while the sale is in process.
Helpful Hints for Consignors:
- The best rule of thumb is "what would you pay for an item if you were buying it for your child."
-
Items that are cleaned, ironed and nicely hung on the hanger will bring more money.
-
Attach any instructions to strollers, high chairs, cribs, toys, etc. This will add value to your item. You can go the manufacturer's web site and download instructions and attach this to your item, even include the original retail price so buyers know what kind of deal they are getting.
-
To make consignor pickup on the last day easier, mark your hangers with spray paint on the neck of the hanger in a bright color, attach a piece of yarn around the hanger, or apply an address label or colored label around the hanger. This will make spotting your items much easier.
-
Allow your items to be sold at 50% off the last day. Consignors seem more happy with their checks if they have discounted their items.
