Consignor Tagging Instructions and Merchandise Preparation

  1. All items should be free of stains, holes, missing buttons,

  2. All clothing items should be hung on wire hangers (preferably) or you can use plastic hangers if you are unable to find wire. Wire hangers are available at most dry cleaners free of charge. The hanger hook should be facing the left. Place two piece outfits on one hanger with the shirt to the front and pants safety pinned to the back. Refer to diagram.

  3. Attach your bar-coded card with a safety pin to the left shoulder of your clothing item (as if you are wearing it). Attach tags to toys and other non-hanging items with 2" clear packing tape placed above the description line on the tag. Please DO NOT place tape over the barcode!

  4. When describing your items, point out if they are brand name, new or barely used. This will catch the buyer's eye. Use a numeric size on your tags, not S, M, L. Also, state how many pieces (if there are multiple pieces) are included in a set, i.e. 2-piece outfit, 3-piece outfit.

  5. Items in great, like new condition will generally bring 1/4-1/3 of the original retail price. The best rule of thumb is what would you pay for the item? (See "Helpful Hints" on our website)

  6. When setting the price of your items, use $1 increments only.

  7. For small items, such as onesies, socks, receiving blankets, toys with a lot of pieces, use a ziploc bag and tape the top part of the card on the outside of the bag. Do not place any tape over the barcodes.

  8. Tie books together with yarn or string instead of using a ziploc bag.

  9. Make sure all tags are securely fastened. Either pinned on clothing or taped securely on toys and other items. Scotch or masking tape will not hold.

  10. We can not accept car sets that are older than 6 years old, recalled, defective. If you are bringing a car seat, please download our "car seat disclaimer" form, sign and bring with you to your drop off time. Click here to see if your car seat has been recalled.

  11. Items not following the above standards will be rejected at drop off. No exceptions!

Helpful Hints for Consignors:

  1. Here is some idea on how to price your items. Remember pricing is subjective and depends on the name brand, quality, and fashion. Here is a guide on how to price typical item:

    • Shirts and shorts-$1-$5

    • Pants and jeans $3-$6

    • 2 piece outfit- $6-$10

    • 3 piece outfit- $8-$14

    • Dresses $6-$10

  2. The best rule of thumb is "what would you pay for an item if you were buying it for your child."

  3. Items that are cleaned, ironed and nicely hung on the hanger will bring more money.

  4. Attach any instructions to strollers, high chairs, cribs, toys, etc. This will add value to your item. You can go the manufacturer's web site and download instructions and attach this to your item, even include the original retail price so buyers know what kind of deal they are getting.

  5. To make consignor pickup on the last day easier, mark your hangers with spray paint on the neck of the hanger in a bright color, attach a piece of yarn around the hanger, or apply an address label or colored label around the hanger. This will make spotting your items much easier.

  6. Allow your items to be sold at 50% off the last day. Consignors seem more happy with their checks if they have discounted their items.
