Tagging Instructions for Kids Closet Connection – Missouri Sales:

Clothing: All clothing must be washed and hung on wire hangers. Sorting clothing by size and gender before drop off is very helpful, because it saves a LOT of time… but is definitely not required:
1. Clothing must be hung on wire OR plastic hangers. Adult size wire hangers can be used even on infant clothing - they will fit fine, there is no need to button all the buttons. (tip: most dry cleaners will provide you with wire hangers for free.) You will not get the hangers back, as they are  sold with the items. 
2. Pants or shorts must be hung using safety pins. 
3. The product tag must be affixed to the item's upper right hand shoulder (when the item is lying on the table in front of you) - see photo below. 
4. Hang the garments on the hanger so that the hanger makes a question mark (?) when the clothing is lying on the table in front of you.  See the clothing photo below. 
5. Tags should be attached to clothing using a safety pin. Do not put the pin through the bar code.
6. Number sizes should be listed on the tags (3, 4, 5, 6, etc…), not S-M-L  
7. Clothing must be sorted by size and gender before you bring them to the sale.  Banding them together with rubber bands is helpful.

8. Smaller items – infant onsies, socks, bibs, etc. can be placed in Ziploc bags and the tag should be taped to the outside of the bag. Use clear packing tape to tape the tag and TAPE THE BAG CLOSED to ensure that your items are not removed from the bag. Do not place the tape over the bar code.

 **If you plan to use a tagging gun, the tag must go through the actual clothing tag. We recommend using a  fabric tagger, which leaves smaller holes in the items. You will want to use two of the plastic barb attachers to ensure they are held on well. You must use cardstock, and put the needle in the middle of the tag (if you put it towards the top, it will tear the tag). If your clothing does not have a tag, a safety pin must be used. Please note that tags DO fall off easier when you tag using a tagging gun vs. safety pins. If you want to purchase a tagger, Kid's Closet sells them.

Shoes: 
Shoes notoriously lose their tags and become separated from their mates at the sale.  Do you best to secure them together with their tag. We suggest attaching them together with zip ties, loop ties or at minimum a safety pin.  Knotting their shoelaces together is also helpful but zip ties are the best.
Shoes can also be placed in Ziploc bag. As with the clothes, place a strip of clear packing tape over the seal of the bag so that it can not be opened during the sale (or staples work, too!). Tape your label to the exterior of the bag but do not tape over the bar code. 
If you attach your tag directly to the shoes, tags can easily get ripped off shoes. Therefore, we recommend "laminating" the top of your tag with packing tape before you affix the tag to your shoes - that way the tag won't be so easily ripped off. Remember, please do not place tape over the bar code.

Toys: 
1. Toys that require batteries must have working batteries. 
2. If the toys have loose parts, secure these extra parts in a plastic bag and securely tape them to the main toy.  Shoppers are rough – they will separate toys, try them out, etc.  If parts aren’t secured well enough, they will get lost and separated and make it difficult for your toys to sell. 
3. Tape your product information tag securely to the toy so that it cannot be torn off easily by the customer.
4. Tape or place in bags any games, puzzles or other “boxed” items shut to ensure that the pieces don’t get pulled out during the sale. 
5. Bikes or outdoor toys should be clearly labeled. Tape the label to the toy in a location that makes it easy to see.

Books: 
1. Tape the product tag to the back cover of the book.  Use regular scotch tape and only tape 2 sides of the tag down.  This will prevent damaging the books' covers when removing the tag. Please be sure not to tape over your barcode, or it will not scan.
2. You can also cluster books by tying them together with yarn and tagging the group of books.

Baby/kid equipment (e.g. strollers, bouncers, exersaucers, furniture, etc.): 
1. Instruction manuals are always helpful - include them when you can.  Most can be downloaded them from the internet if you've lost them. 
2. Ensure everything is clean – trays, pads, bars, etc. – spit up and gunk get caught everywhere! 
3. If items have multiple pieces that might get separated (e.g. bouncy seats and their activity bars, the 7 pieces that come with your pack and play, cribs with 8 pieces), make sure that the product tag is on the main piece.  Handwrite additional tags with your consignor #, the description and mark them with 1 of 8, 2 of 8, 3 of 8, etc.
4. Car seats are welcome at the sale. They should be no more than 5 years old and cannot have been in a car wreck nor recalled. We will have you sign a waiver at the sale, and check our recall listing before accepting the carseat. Infant car seats must have base attached and all carseats must come with all the parts.

PRICING
• You set your own prices for your items!!! 
• In setting prices consider what you would be willing to pay at a consignment store for the same item. 
• Most items earn anywhere from 25-50% of their original retail value. Very unique items or “new” items can earn even more, while common items like stuffed animals will typically earn less. 
• All prices should be in WHOLE DOLLAR increments.

Also, volunteers get the first chance to shop. Work for as little as 4 hours during the event, hand out fliers, bring a meal up to the sale, or make some calls and you’ll earn an invitation to our exclusive volunteer pre-sale!!!
